Can we please fix this city?

The Herald Needs a Real Copyeditor

I think it’s common knowledge around the city that the Herald is a poor-quality newspaper, but it’s pretty much the only one we have, so we’re stuck with it. (Any other so-called “newspapers” are actually advertisement periodicals sprinkled with an article or two; they don’t count.)

However, it seems like every time I pick up an issue of the Herald, the quality of it is greatly decreased from the last time I did so. It’s as if they never actually read through the articles they print. In an issue from a couple of weeks ago, I noticed that they copied and pasted the same typographical error three or four times in the Crime Watch section. The typographical errors are so bad in this newspaper that they’ve even begun to appear in headlines! (And, now that I think about it, they’re often the same error: an “s” where it’s not supposed to be.) This week’s issue has just that, on the second page. It would be quite sad if it weren’t so frustrating….

So, Herald staff, if you’re reading this, I will gladly proofread your issues before they go to press, if only to keep my own sanity….

I’ve decided to start this blog to keep track of my thoughts about what is going on in the City of Long Beach, and my suggestions for improving things.

Hopefully, someone will listen to what I have to say.
